The Bus Stops Here
And here, and there. Nearly two hundred people hopped aboard the trolley hop in March, sponsored by the Downtown Sarasota Merchants Alliance. Hoppers enjoyed complimentary appetizers and beverage at a dozen or so downtown Sarasota stopovers. Participating Palm Ave restaurants included Caragiulo’s and Saxe’s. Many other local bistros and nightspots were included in the evening-long event.

Chamber Ensemble from Massachusetts to Perform at Church of the Redeemer
The Church of the Redeemer in downtown Sarasota will host the “Mistral Quintet” the Ensemble in Residence of the Andover Chamber Music Series based in the Rogers Center for the Arts at Merrimack College in Massachusetts. The Mistral Quintet, with featured pianist Janice Weber, will perform a concert of strings, piano, voice, and winds beginning at 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, 21 March. Awine and cheese reception will follow. The group will be performing a piece by Florida composer James Stephenson. Cafe Music will include an infectiously fun jazzy piano trio by living American composer Paul Schoenfield that combines elements of Ragtime, Klezmer, and jazz. A donation of $10 per ticket is suggested and tickets will be available at the door the day of the event.The Church of the Redeemer is located at 222 South Palm Avenue in downtown Sarasota. Four Fabio Days
Medici Gallery, 75 S. Palm Avenue, hosted international artist Fabio Calvetti in a February one-man show. This was the first US show for Calvetti. His works included warm interiors and dramatic lifespace portraits, typically of momentarily displaced urban young women. Medici Gallery is the exclusive agent for Calvetti.

Twenty Years to Come and Go
In February, owner and creative director Peter Paul observed the 20th anniversary of his InterAd Agency business on Palm Avenue. A retrospective show in his Peter Paul Gallery, 53-C S. Palm Avenue, included examples of work done for clients since 1985. Items on display included samples from ad campaigns, corporate branding efforts and special event promotions.” A Distinctive Presentation of Persuasive Art” was a glimpse back at Sarasota’s business history as well as an educational tour of the techniques and tools of the advertising trade, from razor and cement paste-up days to 3-D digital web design. The Dabbert Gallery is hosting the “Divine: Fine Art of Daniel Bilodeau.” The exhibit of provocative portraits continues through March. Bilodeau, a Ringling Art School graduate, knows how to capture compelling images. Click here to see "Dawn", one his more memorable pieces.
Art gallery Design O'Fresco invited guests and supporters to a benefit sale on March 2. 'Una sera del vino intaliano e della musica" was held as a fund-raiser for the Sarasota Conservation Foundation. Twenty-five percent al all sales went to support the foundation.
